A great addition to the Taken Trilogy and this story will read well as a standalone. The two main characters are a husband and wife, Cole and Elizabeth. There are several other couples that are secondary characters, Elizabeth’s brothers and their wives, Luke and Lila who were the main characters in Taken by Surprise, and David and Hannah. The story involves a major change in the marriage of Cole and Elizabeth, especially after a health scare with their son, Jacob. Elizabeth is spoiled, self-centered, bratty, and negligent in her marriage and rearing of their twin children, but that will change. “She had pushed him to edge with her selfish behavior.”
Cole has a very successful business remodeling and flipping houses, as well as, being hired to remodel homes and businesses. After working all day, he comes home, cooks dinner, cleans the house, and tends to the twins. During Elizabeth’s pregnancy, she was bedridden and had a difficult delivery and recovery, but when she did recover, he still is doing everything.
Elizabeth has returned to her job teaching school, and their twin is now in daycare, but a medical emergency of their son Jacob will help set this tale into motion. Elizabeth is spoiled, and she takes Cole and her marriage for granted, and if he is going to cook, clean, and take care of the children, why not let him. With an incident happening, anger ensues, something must change. Elizabeth is jealous of the relationship of her brothers and their spouses, and she knows they have a domestic discipline lifestyle. When she tells Cole that she wants that too, he is hesitant, and they talk about it, but he waits.
The plot will have a couple discussing, rationalizing, and deciding if a domestic discipline lifestyle is something they both honestly want. Cole lets Elizabeth know, if we do this, we will do it my way. “When you agreed to this, you agreed for me to be the one in charge, and that means always obeying me, and facing the consequences when you don’t.” Elizabeth sees the strength between her brothers and sister-in-laws, both are strong women who willing submit to their husbands. “Sometimes a strong willed woman puts on a façade of wanting to be in control. What they really want, and need, is a stronger man to take the reins from them.” Even Lila and Hannah can see a big change in Elizabeth after Cole takes her in hand. “Hallelujah girl, someone finally spanked you.” “I see how happy you and Cole are—like a piece that was missing has just fallen into place. A hand shaped piece.”
The story will have some secrets come to light along with a life and death moment for Hannah. The story has plenty of domestic discipline scenarios and scenes; there are no sex scenes, they are only implied. I look forward to the next story in this trilogy
